The PlayStation 4’s last major update — 1.70 — was released at the end of April and since then the console has only seen the minor — stability improving — update 1.71 released. It now appears as though news regarding the next major update will be announced soon.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog regarding “this week in PlayStation” a commenter questioned whether the PS4 would soon receive 3D Blu-ray support after the announcement that Xbox One would receive the functionality in next month’s update.
EU PlayStation Blog Manager Fred Dutton responded to the question saying, “Yes, more news on PS4 firmware updates very soon. Stay tuned.” He added that he was unsure of exactly what would be announced or when, but asked fans to be patient as news would be forthcoming.
