Sony and PlayStation allegedly hacked

Sony is investigating.

Sony and PlayStation have allegedly been hacked by a group called Ransomed.vc, and Sony has said it’s investigating the claim.

As first reported by Aussie David Hollingworth over at CyberSecurity Connect, Ransomed.vc says it “successfully compromissed [sic] all of sony systems” and has offered to sell acquired data “due to sony not wanting to pay”.

The group has also said it will post the acquired data on 28 September — likely 29 September here in Australia — if no one pays for the data.

Ransomed.vc claims it is a “secure solution for addressing data security vulnerabilities within companies”, that operates “in strict compliance with GDPR and Data Privacy Laws”.

Speaking to IGN, Sony said it is “currently investigating the situation, and [has] no further comment at this time.”

Sony’s PlayStation Network was hacked back in 2011, in which the personal details of 77 million accounts were compromised. The PlayStation Network was also knocked offline for the better part of a month as a result of the attack.
