Some Xbox Live content is currently unavailable to iiNet customers [UPDATE]

Xbox Live users across Australia may have been experiencing a raft of issues with their Xbox One recently and it seems to be due to configuration changes made by ISP iiNet.

Xbox One users have reported an inability to install Halo: The Master Chief CollectionDestiny’s latest update, World of Tanks, Grand Theft Auto V, Forza 6 and more. Stevivor’s very own Shane Wall experienced the issue with Halo: MCC, being unable to install the title at all. Users experiencing the issues find that attempting to install a title will not display the percentage complete bar, but rather the download will instead simply fail. Some users have reported being able to download up to 3% of Halo: MCC before it fails. Some new content and some older content are reportedly being downloaded without issue, so it seems there is no hard and fast rule as to what will and won’t download. Some users have even reported issues installing titles from disc.

The problem seems to have stemmed from recent configuration changes by iiNet. The ISP has revealed that these changes have meant that some customers downloads will not be included in the Freezone (unmetered downloads). The support page also states “Some customer’s may also be unable to download newer released content through Xbox live during this time.” The problems affect both iiNet and Internode customers.

iiNet has stated that it is working with Microsoft on correcting the issue, however many Xbox One users have been left in the cold, unable to download content they’ve purchased. Some users are reporting being able to download content by changing the Xbox One’s DNS settings to use Google’s, however this means that any downloads will not be unmetered. An iiNet representative has suggested users attempt a hard-reset of their console to correct the issue, but it appears to only work in a handful of cases.

At the time of writing this issue has been ongoing for a week and is still not corrected, however iiNet’s status page suggests the problems began a month ago. The Xbox Live status page does not state that there are any issues with the service.

While iiNet says it is working with Microsoft on the issue there is currently no estimated time for the issues to be resolved, leaving many gamers understandably angry. We’ve reached out to both iiNet and Microsoft for comment.

Are you an iiNet/Internode customer and have you experienced issues with your Xbox Live?

Update: A representative from iiNet has taken to Whirlpool to say the ISP thinks it has corrected the issue.

“We’ve made some config changes to our CDN[s],” the rep confirmed. “If you’ve been having issues please try downloading another game / patch with the iiNet DNS settings and let me know how you go.”

Thanks for the update so we could update, Andrew.
