Shawn Layden to depart Sony Interactive Entertainment

Sony Worldwide Studios Chairman, Shawn Layden, will be stepping away from his role at Sony Interactive Entertainment, it was today announced.

“It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE,” a tweet from PlayStation reads. “His visionary leadership will be greatly missed. We wish him success in future endeavors and are deeply grateful for his years of service. Thanks for everything, Shawn!”

It’s unclear at the moment when Layden will be leaving the role, but we’ll update this story as more is known.

Layden joined Sony in 1987 and became the Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe in 1999, then President of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan in 2007, then Executive Vice President and COO of Sony Network Entertainment International in 2010. He succeeded Jack Tretton as President and COO of Sony Computer Entertainment America in April 2014, shifting to Worldwide Studios Chairman in March 2018.

Update: A representative from PlayStation Australia has declined further comment on Layden’s departure, mirroring PlayStation’s original tweet by thanking the Worldwide Studios Chairman for his years of service.
