Report: Remastered Gears of War headed to Xbox One

Sources have revealed to Polygon the existence of a remastered version of the original Gears of War for Xbox One.

The remaster is reported to feature improved visuals and all new cutscenes thanks to animation studio Plastic Wax. Polygon was shown still images of the opening cutscene which it reports shows the updated visuals and a first look at the remastered Locust invasion

Rumours of a Gears of War Anthology for Xbox One were put to bed by Rod Fegusson of Black Tusk. When Microsoft aqcuired the rights to Gears of War from Epic it put Black Tusk to work on a new entry in the franchise. The new entry will be coming to Xbox One and won’t be cross-gen, so no Xbox 360 version is planned.

According to Polygon, additional sources name UK based developer Splash Damage as the firm handling the remaster. Job listings at Splash Damage mention work on a “very well known and highly popular AAA title with next gen technology,” which could quite easily be Gears of War.

Finally, Polygon also reports that it was shown screens from multiplayer and it appears that lighting and texture quality have been a focus of the remaster. Polygon reports it was told the remaster will run at 60fps.
