Could Rockstar be working on a new GTA handheld game?

The rumour mill is in overdrive after Take-Two Interactive, parent company to Rockstar, filed a trademark for something containing the name City Stories.

The listing includes both “computer and video game programs and software” and “downloadable computer and video game programs and software.” The filing is also for “entertainment services, namely, providing online games” amongst other like ringtones, websites and the like. It’s not uncommon for a trademark to include a range of functions, so despite including three pertinent to gaming there are really no clues to be garnished from the listing.

City Stories is the moniker attached to handheld GTA games though — Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories — so it’s possible we may see a new GTA handheld sooner rather than later. We know that Rockstar’s first current-gen game is coming next year, so it could be that whatever City Stories is relates to that.

At this point it’s all speculation and it could be that Take-Two are simply lodging a placeholder for a later date. Time will tell.
