Rocket Arena, The Crew both shutting down March 2024

Time to grab those Achievements or Trophies!?

Both Rocket Arena and The Crew will both be shutting down in March 2024, giving players just months to finish up their playthroughs.

Rocket Arena shuts down on 22 March 2024

First, First Strike Games has announced that Rocket Arena will shut down its servers at 7.00 am AEDT on 22 March 2024.

“It’s with a heavy heart from all of us at FSG and EA to inform you that Rocket Arena will be sunset and the servers shut down,” reads an announcement. “We can’t thank you all enough for playing Rocket Arena and supporting us during this journey.

“We’re thrilled that people from all around the world got to enjoy Rocket Arena for three and a half years since it launched in July of 2020.”

In the lead up to the game’s conclusion, First Strike Games will remove Rocket Fuel bundles from the store, reducing Rocket Part prices for purchasable items, and increase XP from match times.

We reviewed Rocket Arena when it was first released, and while we enjoyed it, we also didn’t think it lived up to its price tag.

“Despite the chaos surrounding it, Rocket Arena is quite fun though I do realise I’m saying this as someone who’s been able to jump into matches at no cost,” I said back in July 2020. “Rocketball is my favourite mode to play; its comparisons to Halo‘s Grifball make sense when considering the DNA of First Strike itself.”

Rocket Arena is available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.

The Crew shuts down on 31 March 2024

Ubisoft’s The Crew will be delisted and become unavailable from 31 March 2024, the publisher recently revealed.

“We understand this may be disappointing for players still enjoying the game, but it has become a necessity due to upcoming server infrastructure and licensing constraints,” states an update from Ubisoft.

“Decommissioning a game, and especially our first one, is not something we take lightly. Our goal remains to provide the best action driving gameplay experience for players and to deliver on it, we are continuing to provide new content and support for The Crew 2 and the recently launched The Crew Motorfest.”

As Ubisoft’s statement alludes to, there are two Crew sequels that remain operational.

The Crew is for car types. Hardcore ones, at that — and that’s fine,” I wrote about the original back in 2014. “Rev-heads will find a game that they’ll be able to sink hours into, delving into loot loops, buying and improving new cars, and enjoying the (oh my god so tedious) drives between America’s cities.”

I wasn’t a huge fan of the franchise’s newest entry, The Crew Motorfest.

“Using review code provided by Ubisoft, I went through Motorfest‘s opening 20 minutes this morning and found it to be a Forza Horizon clone that abandons any identity The Crew was ever known for,” I added.

The Crew is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4 and Amazon Luna. The Crew Motorfest is available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5.
