The Crew Motorfest’s opening fails to impress

Changing its identity, Motorfest's opening is devoid of actual personality.

The Crew Motorfest is available now through early access, and its opening has failed to impress us.

Using review code provided by Ubisoft, I went through Motorfest‘s opening 20 minutes this morning and found it to be a Forza Horizon clone that abandons any identity The Crew was ever known for.

Case in point: after a fifteen minute tutorial that went from Japanese drift cars, to offroad vehicles, to Formula 1, to ol’ time cars and then lambos, Motorfest completely glossed over the fact that you can race motorcycles, or even switch between airplanes, boats and roadsters whilst in freeroam.

What’s also confusing about the opening is that Hawaii is hyped up — through a video, first, and then something that tries to resemble a Horizon-style adventure that’s randomly presented in disconnected chunks — and then seemingly abandoned by a race that’s “set” in Japan rather than honouring the island itself.

You can watch The Crew Motorfest‘s opening twenty minutes below. Better yet, you can try out Motorfest for yourself thanks to a five-hour trial that kicks off on 14 September.

The Crew Motorfest heads to Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5 on 14 September. Stay tuned to Stevivor and our Friendly Fire Show podcast for further thoughts.
