Resident Evil 2 SDCC panel recap: Claire, Raccoon City and zombies

The Resident Evil 2 SDCC panel was all about design, and we’ve a great recap for you below.

Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi used his time to discuss updated character designs of Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, zombies and Raccoon City itself.

Leon and Claire designs

Leon was designed to have a “fresh-faced rookie look” according to Hirabayashi — we think he has more than a passing resemblance to Josh Hutcherson ourselves — while Claire Redfield has been updated to look more lifelike.

Redfield was shown off in a promotional poster that paired Capcom with Harley Davidson, below.

The image also shows off Claire’s updated motorcycle jacket, which retails the iconic “Made in Heaven” logo on its back. While you can see the logo best in image at the top of this post, Redditor ItsyPerkele did a great comparison of the old and new logos too. We’ve included that below — the old logo is on the left and the new one, one the right.

Zombie designs

Zombie design has focused on making the slow-moving walkers as “monstrous” as possible — several zombies have been modeled off developers themselves, while others seem to be missing most of the meat on their cheeks.

From what we experienced at E3 2018RE2‘s zombies are just downright gross and scary. So, perfect!

Raccoon City

As if a zombie outbreak wasn’t bad enough, Hirabayashi confirmed that Raccoon City has been designed to be dark and set. As the events Leon and Claire experience are taking place on a rainy day, expect Raccoon City to be full of puddles and flooding.

Raccoon City will also be show the aftermath of the fights between zombies and citizens, Hirabayashi confirmed.

Resident Evil 2 heads to Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 on 25 January 2019. A special Collector’s Edition was just confirmed for the USA.
