PS5 Slim coming soon, with paid add-ons

Want a disc drive or a vertical stand? Pony up and they're yours.

A PS5 Slim was today announced by Sony and will be in stores for this holiday season (at least in the United States).

The PS5 Slim will come in disc-based or digital-only options, though consumers can pay extra for both a vertical stand (both) and an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive (digital-only console). Both consoles with sport an internal 1TB SSD.

“The new PS5 has been reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models,” Sony advised. “There are four separate cover panels, with the top portion in a glossy look, while the bottom remains in matte.”

The console itself is priced accordingly:

The new pricing means the digital-only PS5 will be raised by $50 USD.
