PS5 price set at $499 USD, $749 AUD; launching 12 November

Update: Sony has confirmed the PS5 will be available locally for $749.95 AUD (PS5) or $599.95 AUD (PS5 Digital Edition). Sony has also said that “PS5 pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers.”

We’ll keep you informed as we learn more.

Original story: The PS5 price has been set at $499 USD by Sony as part of a Showcase reveal earlier this morning.

The PS5, complete with an optical disc drive, is set at $499.99 USD, €499.99, £449.99 and ¥49,980. The PS5 Digital Edition (without an optical disc drive) is $399.99 USD, €399.99, £359.99 and ¥39,980. As expected, we don’t have Australian pricing yet but we’ll report back as more is known.

The consoles will be available from 12 November in regions including the USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea, with other regions needing to wait until 19 November for a launch.

This counters Microsoft’s pricing on the Xbox Series S ($299 USD, $499 AUD) and the Xbox Series X ($499 USD, $749 AUD), though Microsoft also allows customers the chance to own a next-gen console through a financing plan called Xbox All Access.
