PS Vita firmware 2.00 firms up the web browser app

The Vita firmware update – released in the US today – comes to Aussie Vita owners tomorrow and reportedly gives the handheld’s web browser app some additional grunt as well as making it usable whilst playing. No longer requiring you to close the game app to access the web browser is a massive boon for those needing a little online assistance.

This changed were announced by Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida via Twitter. Yoshida added that the browsing would be faster in addition to the app becoming a “small app”.

While the ability to use the browser in game and browse faster than before is a great addition, the addition of PlayStation Plus to the Vita is the biggest change to come with the firmware update. From tomorrow PlayStation Plus subscribers can access the service via their Vita and can download – for free – Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Chronovolt and Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!

PlayStation Plus just gets better and better. Nintendo and Microsoft certainly have some catching up to do.
