Power Rangers Battle for the Grid gets Story mode, new fighters

Power Rangers Battle for the Grid today offers a free update that includes the likes of a Story mode alongside three new characters.

We didn’t mind Battle for the Grid but were mystified by the lack of a Story mode alongside a lack of fighters and touches like voiceover work. This update thankfully goes a long way towards putting the title back in our good books… though we continue to question this content wasn’t part of its launch.

The Story mode has been written and voice directed by Kyle Higgins (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Shattered Grid, Nightwing, Batman: Gates of Gotham) with artwork from Dan Mora (Go Go Power Rangers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Klaus). Perhaps most surprisingly is that it features the voiceover talents of Jason David Frank (Tommy Oliver), Austin St. John (Jason Lee Scott), David J. Fielding (Zordon), Kerrigan Mahan (Goldar) and Meghan ‘Strawburry17’ Camarena (Kimberly).

“In this new mode, players experience a re-imagining of the critically acclaimed Shattered Grid event from Boom! Studios’ Power Rangers comic book series,” Hasbro said of the update. “When Lord Drakkon, an evil alternate version of Tommy Oliver, sets off a massive campaign across time and space to destroy all Power Rangers, they must band together and fight back, before all of existence falls to his armies.”

The three new fighters include Dragon Armor Trini, Udonna and Cenozoic Blue Ranger, bringing the game’s roster to 12 Power Rangers. Four new stages are also included.

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is available on Windows PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch. We reviewed it here.
