PlayStation Plus Collection to provide free PS4 games on PS5

The PlayStation Plus Collection was today announced by Sony, and while it’s a little ambiguous, we believe it to be a free offering of a curated selection of PS4 titles available to PlayStation Plus subscribers on PS5.

“Enjoy a selection of generation defining PS4 games,” title cards read during Sony’s PS5 Showcase earlier this morning. “Access the entire collection on your PS5 at launch. Simply download games and start playing.”

The titles detailed during today’s PS5 Showcase are as follows:

    • God of War
    • Bloodborne
    • Monster Hunter World
    • Final Fantasy 15
    • Fallout 4
    • Mortal Kombat X
    • Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End
    • Ratchet & Clank
    • Days Gone
    • Until Dawn
    • Detroit Become Human
    • Battlefield 1
    • Infamous Second Son
    • Batman Arkham Knight
    • The Last Guardian
    • The Last of Us Remastered
    • Persona 5
    • Resident Evil 7

We’re looking to get more information about the program from Sony, including exact details of how the entitlements work and whether or not this is a permanent program that could rival Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass. We’ll report back when more is known.

Update: The PlayStation Plus Collection looks to be a permanent addition, with Sony saying, “the PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.”

We will have a lot of questions for Sony, but our primary one is in regards to availability — it’s unclear if titles will be rotated in or out of the collection at present. We’ll keep you informed as we learn more.

Update 2 (29 October): The service has added more titles.
