Not a Dreamcast, Sega announces the Mega Drive Mini 2

Cool?

Sega disappointed a lot of Dreamcast Mini hopefuls last night by announcing a second version of the Sega Mega Drive Mini.

This time around, the Sega Mega Drive Mini 2 will come with 50 pre-installed titles from Sega CD (Mega CD in North America) and Mega Drive (Genesis in North America).

Some of the pre-installed titles include the likes of Silpheed, Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Virtua Racing, Popful Mail, and Shining Force CD. The mini console will also include a port of Fantasy Zone, which never actually made it to either original console.

So far, we know the Sega Mega Drive Mini 2 will be available in Japan from 27 October, priced at ¥9,980 ($75 USD or $105 AUD). Release details for additional regions was not detailed by Sega.

Players can also opt to buy a Sega CD mini add-on for ¥4,500 yen ($35 USD or $50 AUD), which is purely cosmetic.
