Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo eShop were down for over seven hours

Both the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service & multiplayer component and the Nintendo eShop went offline for more than seven hours overnight, likely a result of increased usage by those self-isolating and social distancing due to the coronavirus, COVID-19.

Nintendo, ever itself, provided little explanation for the downtime, but advised around half an hour ago that the service was back up.

“Unfortunately, we’re having some issues with our network services. We’re looking to rectify the situation as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience,” read a first tweet, timestamped 11.19 pm AEDT yesterday night.

“The issue with our network services has now been fixed,” read a follow-up tweet at 7.01 am AEDT this morning. “Thank you for your patience!”

Users can check the Nintendo Operational Status page for future occurances like this.
