New Xbox controller comes with haptics, replaceable battery

Embracing change.

A new Xbox controller will offer improvements including haptic feedback, a replaceable battery and an accelerometer, leaked documents have revealed.

Codenamed Sebile, the new controller is expected in mid-2024 and features a slightly revised white-and-black form factor, seen above.

Taking queues from the PS5’s DualSense, the new controller will offer up VCA haptics that will double as speakers and an accelerometer which will allow for the device to wake when it’s lifted up. It also features a number of swappable parts — including a rechargeable battery — that will make for easier repair and disassembly.

The Sebile refresh will also be added to Xbox Design Lab so players can customise their new controller.

The documents — which also detailed a new mid-cycle refresh for both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S — were tied to a court matter between Microsoft and the FTC.
