New Parasite Eve trademark filed by Square Enix

A new Parasite Eve trademark has been filed in Europe by Square Enix.

Details are slim at the moment, but the trademark (spotted by Kotaku) is indeed for “computer game software; video game software; sound recordings in the form of optical discs, magnetic discs, semiconductor ROMs featuring music and/or fictional stories.”

Parasite Eve was first released on PlayStation One in 1998, shortly after Resident Evil; the two survival horror franchises are quite similar. The two diverged in terms of combat — Parasite Eve combines turn-based elements where Capcom’s franchise does not. The game spawned two sequels, Parasite Eve II (1999, PSone) and The 13th Birthday (2010, PSP).

Moreover, the original Parasite Eve will be one of the games bundled inside the Japanese version of the PlayStation Classic (though it’s not included for us in the west).

We’ll have more on the new Parasite Eve as information is made available.
