Mortal Kombat 1 microtransactions remain under fire, with Warner Bros now offering two “free” Fatalities to those who bought the heavily criticised $10 USD (or $15 AUD) Halloween Fatality.
“Next week, you can access the Seasonal Fatalities bundle, which includes the Halloween, Thanksgiving, and upcoming Winter fatality,” the game’s Twitter account stated.
“Those who purchased the Halloween fatality will have access to the bundle at no extra cost,” the statement continued. “We appreciate your feedback.”
It’s believed the Seasonal Fatalities bundle will come in somewhere around the $30 USD mark. In contrast, Mortal Kombat 11′s Kombat Pack 1 — which offered up 6 playable characters, 7 character skins and 6 themed skin packs — costs $20 USD.
That pricing difference hasn’t gone unnoticed by players.
“Everything is just another microtransaction,” wrote s1nc0sx. “I’m regretting buying the game now.”
“‘We appreciate your feedback’,” added Ghostface_4. “Proceeds to still make fatalities cost 10 bucks.”
“If you appreciated our feedback there wouldnt be $10 seasonal fatalities in a game that got its identity off fatalities,” said SeraphSkulls117. “If you appreciated our feedback there would be more content but thats on WB. [You know] theres subtle PR and then there’s blatant PR.”
“Our feedback is that you shouldn’t sell fatalities on a game we paid full price for,” concluded Tundra_SZ.
Mortal Kombat 1‘s pricing problems come at the same time Warner Bros has stated it plans to make more live service games out of its IP — which potentially means microtransactions like this are here to stay in its titles.
