Minecraft Wii U won’t take advantage of second screen

Mojang’s Director of Creative Communications Owen Hill has shot down hopes that the upcoming Minecraft Wii U Edition will take advantage of the Wii U Gamepad. According to Hill the second screen function of the Wii U will just be used to replicate the game action, not for inventory management.

Few games have used the Wii U Gamepad in any meaningful way but this particular omission is a real kick in the guts for the system. Hopefully this does not indicate a simple, bare bones port is incoming for the Wii U, though not taking advantage of the one unique feature of the console is a poor start.

Minecraft Wii U Edition arrives 17 December.
