Minecraft for Wii U officially confirmed

Minecraft has been officially confirmed as coming to Wii U and it will be available next week.

After much toing and froing, the popular title will finally make its way to Nintendo’s console. Last month the Wii U version was spotted as having been classified by PEGI and now both Mojang and Nintendo have confirmed the imminent release.

The Wii U version will include off-TV play and will take advantage of the GamePad for crafting and the like. Included with the release are a range of add-on packs including;

  • Battle & Beasts Skin Pack
  • Battle & Beasts 2 Skin Pack
  • Natural Texture Pack
  • City Texture Pack
  • Fantasy Texture Pack
  • Festive Mash-up Pack

Also available from the eShop are a range of DLC packs that have previously been released including The Simpsons, Dr Who, Star Wars, Mass Effect and more. Additional packs will be added to the store in the future. Nintendo confirmed that it and Mojang will be collaborating on special Nintendo-themed content in the future, but no dates have yet been announced.

Local pricing is TBC, however Minecraft: Wii U Edition will cost $30 USD which is roughly $41 AUDMinecraft on Xbox One costs $26.95 AUD and $19.75 AUD on PlayStation 4.

Minecraft: Wii U Edition will be available from 18 December.
