Microsoft, Activision Blizzard move acquisition deadline to October

Here we go...

Microsoft and Activision Blizzard have both agreed to shift their acquisition deadline into October in order to sort out issues like that with the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

The original deadline, 18 July, has come and gone, and has now been extended to 18 October accordingly.

“We are announcing the extension of our merger agreement to… provide ample time to work through the final regulatory issues,” Microsoft’s Brad Smith said on Twitter.

“We will honor all commitments agreed upon with the EC and other regulators and continue to work with the CMA on the issues raised in the UK,” Smith continued. “We are confident about our prospects for getting this deal across the finish line.”

As we reported earlier in the week, Microsoft and the CMA are taking extra time to sort through a new acquisition deal; the regulatory body originally took issue with a potential monopoly by Microsoft in the cloud gaming space.

We’ll report back as we learn more.
