The Last of Us TV show keeps Ellie as gay, says producer

The newly-announced Last of Us TV show will keep protagonist Ellie as gay, one of its producers has confirmed.

Chernobyl‘s Craig Mazin said on Twitter that fans have “his word” when asked if Ellie will remain gay.

“Y’all better keep the gay gay,” user @lmj_black2pink originally wrote to Mazin. “[Please] and thank you. Do not erase that representation [please]. Anyways, I’m so excited for this!”

“You have my word,” Mazin replied. It should also be noted that Mazin’s current Twitter profile picture is an image of Ellie herself.

Ellie’s sexual orientation was first addressed in The Last of Us‘ Left Behind expansion. While it’s never explicitly been confirmed if Ellie is a gay or bisexual character, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has said he wrote Ellie to be gay. Druckmann will also serve as a producer on HBO’s The Last of Us TV show.
