ISP Aussie Broadband adds bandwidth for tonight’s Fortnite v8.20 update

Internet provider Aussie Broadband has temporarily increased its bandwidth by 20% in anticipation of a massive traffic surge tonight when customers download the 9.25GB Fortnite v8.20 update.

“The last time this happened there was massive traffic spike on our network,” the provider said on social media.

“To try and counteract this, We have added an additional 20% to all of our CVCs today, adding an additional 49.4 Gbits of capacity into the network,” Managing Director Phil Britt said on Whirlpool.

“CVCBot processed these changes in about 30 seconds and that capacity is available now ready for tonight, we will then change it back after the surge.

“We’re not sure what effect it will have on other links but last time we saw a lot of it come off the content caches we have embedded in the network. Enjoy!”

A new limited time mode called The Floor is Lava is expected to arrive as part of the download. All we know about that is the description anchored by “coming soon” in the Fortnite newsfeed, which reads “get to high ground or build above the lava that’s overtaking the island”.

The update should be available around 8:00pm AEDT tonight for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch and mobile.
