Indiana Jones and the Great Circle gameplay showcased

And we've got it here!

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the name of MachineGames’ upcoming title, and gameplay was today showcased for the first time at an Xbox Developer Direct.

“Uncover one of history’s greatest mysteries in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a first-person, single-player adventure set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade,” Bethesda, MachineGames and Microsoft said alongside the gameplay trailer, which you can see below.

“The year is 1937, sinister forces are scouring the globe for the secret to an ancient power connected to the Great Circle, and only one person can stop them – Indiana Jones,” the trio continued.

“You’ll become the legendary archaeologist in this cinematic action-adventure game from MachineGames, the award-winning studio behind the recent Wolfenstein series, and executive produced by Hall of Fame game designer Todd Howard.”

As you can see above, the title looks pretty photo-realistic, filled with some pretty dramatic lighting. You may have also spotted horror legend Tony Todd (who recently voiced Venom in Spider-Man 2) making an appearance. Alongside Todd’s likeness is of course Harrison Ford’s as Indiana Jones himself (though he’s voiced by The Last of Us Troy Baker).

“Our game is about putting you in the shoes of an iconic hero,” said MachineGames’ Jens Andersson. “Since we are doing this mostly in first-person, you have the chance to truly become Indy. First-person makes you part of this world – allowing you to explore and experience things more intimately. What will you do when you’re dropped into this adventure with your wits and your whip? The world of Indiana Jones is a world with mysteries around every corner, where you’re racing against the clock and outsmarting your enemies as you hunt down artifacts.”

In a press release, Bethesda said Indy’s whip was paramount to gameplay, “and can be used to distract, disarm, attack enemies, and traverse the environment”.

“Throughout the game, players will encounter a mix between a narrative-driven gaming experience and open-area maps,” the press release continued. “With gameplay full of adventure, immersive action, and intriguing puzzles, players can combine stealthy infiltration, first-person melee, and gunplay to sneak, fight, and puzzle their way through the enemy threat.”

If you like what you see, you thankfully don’t have to wait too long to play — Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is targeting a 2024 release on Windows PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store alongside Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. The title will also be made avaiable through Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
