Here’s how to get Red Dead Redemption on Xbox One right now

Red Dead Redemption has snuck into Xbox One’s 360 backwards compatibility program, though it’s not been officially announced as yet. Don’t let that stop you from getting the game on your Xbox One, though.

You’ll be able to install the game today, provided you meet the following, via workaround:

  • You own a digital copy of Red Dead Redemption — or want to go buy one for $50 AUD.
  • You’ve got a friend who is following the game — or if not, you can befriend me, Stevivor.

With that sorted, you’ll need to do the following on your Xbox One itself:

  • Go and find your friend/me, then view that person’s profile.
  • Go to the tab along the top that says Following & followers.
  • Change the drop-down to Games.
  • Find Red Dead Redemption and click into it.
  • That’ll take you to the game’s entry in the Store, allowing you to download if you own it.

Update: Microsoft has stopped this little workaround. Boo!
