Guardians of the Galaxy’s soundtrack is full of bangers

The licensed soundtrack is en pointe.

Guardians of the Galaxy will feature a licensed soundtrack packed full of old school hits.

As we’ve previously reported, Star-Lord will make use of classic anthems to help inspire his teammates as they battle the forces of evil.

Today, Square Enix and Eidos Montreal detailed the licensed tunes that will be put to good use:

  • Blondie: Call Me
  • Blue Oyster Cult: Don’t Fear The Reaper
  • Bobby McFerrin: Don’t Worry Be Happy
  • Hot Chocolate: Every 1’s A Winner
  • Wang Chung: Everybody Have Fun Tonight
  • Tears For Fears: Everybody Wants To Rule The World
  • EUROPE: The Final Countdown
  • New Kids on the Block: Hangin’ Tough
  • Pat Benatar: Hit Me With Your Best Shot
  • Bonnie Tyler: Holding Out for a Hero
  • KISS: I Love It Loud
  • Flock of Seagulls: I Ran
  • Culture Club: I’ll Tumble 4 Ya
  • Mötley Crüe: Kickstart My Heart
  • Simple Minds: Love Song
  • Rick Astley: Never Gonna Give You Up
  • Frankie Goes To Hollywood: Relax
  • Def Leppard: Rock Rock Till You Drop
  • Rainbow: Since You Been Gone
  • A-ha: Take On Me
  • Soft Cell: Tainted Love
  • Loverboy: Turn Me Loose
  • Autograph: Turn Up the Radio
  • Wham!: Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go
  • Scandal featuring Patty Smyth: The Warrior
  • Starship: We Built This City
  • Twisted Sister: We’re Not Gonna Take It
  • Billy Idol: White Wedding

Yep: we’re getting Rickrolled. The above songs are also joined by two original songs from Star-Lord’s in-game band.

“You can listen to all the songs you want when you’re in [your ship], but we have this… thing called the huddle, which when you’re in the middle of battle… and you need an extra boost, Star-Lord can call the team into a huddle and basically motivate them using a speech that he has kind of used song lyrics to help him craft,” Eidos Montreal’s Mary DeMarle back in June.

“If you go into the battle afterwards — if you were successful in motivating them — everybody gets a boost and you are hearing the song as you finish the battle. Star-Lord always gets a boost ’cause he always motivates himself, but sometimes the Guardians aren’t as motivated as you.”
