Grand Theft Auto 5 gets free last- to current-gen upgrade

Playing on PS4? You get the PS5 version for free.

Grand Theft Auto 5 has received a free last- to current-gen upgrade thanks to Rockstar, meaning players on PS4 get the PS5 version for free, and those on Xbox One get the same on Xbox Series consoles.

“Those who own any PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost, and experience the best versions of GTAV and GTA Online ahead of the launch of The Kortz Center Heist,” Rockstar said in a post.

GTAV and GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S feature vast technical improvements, easy migration of your Story Mode and Online progress, and new features including Hao’s Special Works high-performance vehicles and upgrades, Career Progress rewards, and much more,” Rockstar continued.

Those playing on PC haven’t been overlooked either.

“PC players can also experience all these updates along with PC-only features, such as ray traced ambient occlusion and global illumination, by upgrading from Legacy to Enhanced for free,” Rockstar added.

It’s a big week for Grand Theft Auto fans — Rockstar also announced that pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 become available later in the month, ahead of the sequel’s November release.
