Gears of War 4 will have cosmetic microtransactions

Gears of War 4 will feature cosmetic microtransactions, The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson confirmed with GameSpot.

The microtransactions will allow gamers to buy in-game cards used for cosmetic changes.

“I feel like that paradigm of cards is really clear to understand for collectibles, like the ability to collect things. We had weapon skins and character skins, so that idea of collecting cards is just easily understood,” Fergusson explained.

The cards will be offered up in crates and have rarity levels, which Fergusson says will add “engagement” to buying collecting.

Fergusson also stressed crates can be earned in-game through play.

“We’re going to be balanced where you’re going to be constantly getting crates, or enough credits to get crates through the game, so it really is just about your choice.”

Gears of War 4 is due on Xbox One in October.
