Gear up, Spartan: Cortana is set to assist you in Windows 10

As rumoured, Microsoft today confirmed that Cortana, Microsoft’s voice-enabled assistant, will be integrated into Windows 10.

Windows users can activate the AI by saying, “Hey Cortana,” as demonstrated during Microsoft’s Windows 10 event today.

Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore confirmed that Cortana will speak multiple languages and will have her own user interface within Windows 10.

As on Windows Phone, Microsoft has stressed that you can be quite relaxed with Cortana, who’ll understand questions like, “Cortana, will I need a raincoat tomorrow?”

“Having Cortana on your PC is like having another member of the family sitting around and helping you get things done,” Belfiore said, adding she’ll endeavour to get to know you personally.

The Xbox One will use Windows 10 and will be integrated with the OS across PCs and tablets, but Cortana’s functionality on the console hasn’t really been explained yet. The AI has taken its name from Halo, and is voiced by longtime Cortana voice actor Jen Taylor.
