Game Masters launches two new competitions for foodies and musicians

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) has just launched two new initiatives to take place at the Game Masters exhibition in Melbourne, “Game Masters Super Chef” and “Sonic Sensations.”

“The two competitions… are designed for people of all ages to put their creativity to the test and produce games-inspired works of art to share online,” said ACMI in a recent press release.

“We know gamers love getting involved in a hands-on way, which is what Game Masters is all about. We also know they can be competitive and creative so we’ve designed some competitions with these things in mind,” said Screen Events Manager, Helen Simondson. “All ages can enter and there are some great prizes up for grabs.”

Matt Preston, cravat-loving food critic and judge on Ten’s MasterChef Australia will be judging “Game Masters Super Chef” and “Junior Super Chef”, whilst Steve Fawkner of Warlords and the Puzzle Quest series will handle judging duties on “Sonic Sensations.”

Winners of any of the competitions will receive a Game Masters prize pack which includes a Sony PlayStation Vita console and game, a double pass to the exhibition and a Game Masters book signed by Tim Schafer and Warren Spector. One runner-up in each contest will win a Game Masters t-shirt, Game Masters book (unsigned) and an ACMI Membership.

The “Super Chef” contest asks you to “create a games-inspired dish, savoury or sweet, that will entice a hungry gamer,” according to ACMI. “This competition is all about food styling so, while we want you to eat your creation, we want it to look sensational. Don’t forget to take a photo of your creation before you devour it as your entry is judged by the food we see in the photo you submit.”

“Super Chef” began last week and runs until 17 September. Winners are announced on 1 October.

As for “Sonic Sensations”, you’ll need to “create and record your own composition, an original song or give us a new take on your favourite tune. We’re looking for .wav files between one and three minutes in length,” said ACMI.

Entries for “Sonic Sensations” open 24 August 2012 and the contest runs until 8 October. Winners will be announced 15 October.

Good luck to any and all that enter!
