Fortnite next-gen release comes at launch, transitioning to Unreal Engine 5

Fortnite next-gen release on Xbox Series X and PS5 was today confirmed by Epic Games, confirmed to be available upon the release date of each console. Moreover, Epic detailed that Fornite will begin the transition to its new Unreal Engine 5, with the work completed in 2021.

Honestly, the news should surprise absolutely no one — a popular juggernaut, Fortnite recently expanded its offerings to include Party Royale, a weaponless chill space where players are encouraged to just hang out. Recent concerts by deadmau5, Steve Aoki and a premiere by rapper Travis Scott only cement its popularity.

Epic today announced the Unreal Engine 5, using a playable PS5 demo to showcase its new Nanite and Lumen systems. The engine will be available in 2021, the same year Fortnite will complete its transition.

Both the Xbox Series X and PS5 are due this holiday 2020 season; Fortnite is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, iOS and Android and heads to Xbox Series X and PS5 later this year.
