Folding@Home on PS3 folded up and packed away

Included within the latest PS3 firmware update information is news from Sony that the “Folding@Home” service will be ending. Folding@Home was included within the “Life with PlayStation” app and tied into Stanford University’s work on protein folding and research into the cause of diseases like Alzheimer’s. 15 Million PlayStation users participated in the project since 2007 and were the second greatest contributor after users of Windows devices, adding over 100 million computation hours to the project.

The service will be retired when update 4.30 goes live. Update 4.30 will also add the ability to view PS Vita trophies on your PS3.

Any PS3 owners participate in this project?
