In Fallout 4, Legendary weapons and armour drop randomly from Legendary enemies. Sometimes the weapon is good and sometimes it’s not. Sometimes the perk is good, sometimes it’s bad and sometimes it’s weird. We here at Stevivor have discovered a method to re-roll the Legendary drop again and again until you get the weapon and perk combination you like. Here’s how.
This is my combat rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. You can tell because its name is Kevin and because it’s a two shot combat rifle. That means the damage is almost doubled because it shoots two bullets at once while only expending one shell. The best thing about Kevin is he was not a happy accident. No, Kevin was brought into this world exactly as I planned.
With a little setup and a whole lot of patience, you can easily produce the exact Legendary weapon or piece of armour you desire in Fallout 4. The trick comes from choosing to reload certain saves. The only thing that’ll hold you back from certain weapons and possible perks is both your level and the level of the Legendary enemy you’ll be killing.
The first thing to do is make sure your difficulty is set to either Hard or Very Hard. This saves time as the frequency of Legendary enemies spawning is directly tied to the difficulty modifier. Once you have the difficulty sorted, find an area with enemies behind a door that requires the game to load. Fort Strong, the Electrical Hobbyist’s Club and Faneuil Hall are all good places if you haven’t already cleared out all the enemies.
Make a hard save with your best weapons ready to go and make sure your game autosaves on entering a new area. When you go through the door an autosave will be created and if luck’s on your side, a Legendary enemy will have spawned. After killing the enemy and grabbing their loot you have two options. If they’ve dropped the item you want, you can keep loading the autosave until the item has the desired perk. If it’s a crappy rolling pin or something equally useless, reload the hard save you created before you went through the door. This will crate a new autosave with a new room, new enemies and of course a brand new Legendary weapon.
This can take a while if you’re after something specific, so maybe plan on having something else to do while you grind it out. I was rewatching The Walking Dead and was inspired to make a custom melee weapon.
Cool right? I find the best legendary perk is usually the two shot — for the double damage — but I’m sure you’ll come across a few others that interest you. All you need is some time and some patience.
