The NHL’s first Esports tournament begins later this month

The NHL (National Hockey League) kicks off its first Esports tournament later this month, offering up $100,000 USD in prizes to 24 competing players.

Players from three different regions — USA, Canada and Europe — can register for inclusion on FaceIt, with the first games taking place 24 March and streamable via the NHL’s Twitch page. After the single-elimination games are completed, eight players will move on to live studio gamers that take place in May.

Finalists will eventually meet up for a round-robin finals series that will be held in Las Vegas’ Luxor Hotel Esports Arena on 19 June. The winner will receive a lion’s share of the prize pool and will also gain entry to the NHL Awards 2018.

Regional action will also be televised; those in Europe can tune in via Viasat on 6 May, those in Canada via Sportsnet on 11 May and those in the USA via NBCSN from 20 May.

NHL 18 is available now on Xbox One and PS4.
