FaZe Clan wins StarSeries i-League Invitational Season 1

Season 1 of the StarSeries i-League Invitational PUBG has crowned FaZe Clan as the champion of the $100,000 USD tournament held in Kiev, Ukraine. 16 teams from around the world competed in the first truly international PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds event which featured organisations from North America, Europe, China, CIS, Asia, South America, Southeast Asia, and Oceania.

The 4 day tournament saw a total of 20 matches being played in first person perspective where points were awarded for placement and total kills in each round. AVANGAR were considered the favourites coming into this event having won the IEM Katowice 2018 PUBG Invitational a week earlier, however it was the 3 invited European teams that showed the strongest performance overall.

Coming in 3rd with 2981 points was Vitality with a single 3rd place finish, three 2nd place finishes, three 1st place wins, and 112 kills overall. In 2nd with 3046 points was Team Liquid with a single 2nd place finish, four 1st place wins, and a competition high 146 kills. But it was FaZe Clan who were the most consistent throughout the tournament scoring 3607 points with three 3rd place endings, four 2nd place finishes, four 1st place wins, and a total of 112 kills to take home the $50,000 USD prize.

While a lot of the teams invited have been playing in international tournaments for a few months now, it was the first time an Australian team has been asked to compete in such a big event. Bassel ‘p0ngo’ Ghobar, Cyril ‘uNkryh’ Carmien, Jesse ‘Neferhor’ Watson, and Lachlan ‘Heffaa’ Heffer from Athletico Esports placed 12th overall at StarSeries. Athletico scored a total of 1907 points which consisted of a 3rd and 2nd place finish with 50 kills. Although Athletico didn’t manage to secure any chicken dinners for the tournament, the Australian’s did get Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Greene to partake in a shoey.

Athletico’s experience will help our local PUBG scene grow as the Oceania region continues to be invited to compete in more global events like this. At the end of the month Australia’s Tainted Minds will be heading over to Bucharest for the PGL PUBG Spring Invitational 2018 for the $100,000 USD tournament.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now on Windows PC and Xbox One.
