Athletico Esports wins the PUBG Australia Invitational 2018

Athletico Esports have been crowned the champions of the PUBG Australia Invitation 2018 tournament which took place in Melbourne this week.

The $150,000 tournament saw 16 of the best teams from the APAC region compete for chicken dinners over the course of 3 days at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Day 1 started with a free for all first person perspective competition with Australia’s Tainted Minds Subslayer winning the event and taking home the first prize of $8,000.

However it was the other Australian teams who showed they were in it for the long haul with Athletico Esports securing 35 kills on day 1 of the third person perspective tournament with a chicken dinner and two 2nd place finishes across the next few hours of the first day. Hot behind them was the team from China 4AM with 41 kills and a single chicken dinner.

It was day 2 though that turned a shift of the tides with Australia’s Pathogen really stepping it up and coming from 6th place in the tournament to secure themselves a total of 3 chicken dinners over the course of the next few matches. This saw the final game of the tournament have a 25 point difference between the 1st place team Athletico Esports and the 2nd place team Pathogen battle for the winner of this exciting contest.

Athletico Esports ended up securing the victory by holding out to Pathogen who fell earlier in the game. Ultimately Athletico Esports won the $60,000 first place prize by scoring a total of 4155 points compared to Pathogen’s 4010, and followed by China’s Oh My God 3035 points.

Overall the tournament was a huge success with 7 teams getting to compete from the Australian and New Zealand region and helping to further develop the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds scene in Oceania. Congratulations to Xydon, Linksy, Neferhor, and Heffaa from Athletico Esports on their victory.
