Embracer Group has sold Saber Interactive for $247 million

The rumours were true.

Following rumours of the transaction, Embracer Group has today confirmed it has sold large portions of Saber Interactive, effectively ceasing all operations in Russia and reducing its “geopoliticial risk”.

Saber will be sold to Beacon Interactive, a company founded by Saber co-founder Matthew Karch. Karch, who said he’ll remain “a large, long-term shareholder of Embracer”, will run Saber independently but will nevertheless partner with Embracer for “several ongoing and future projects”.

As part of the deal, Embracer has sold all Saber Interactive-branded studios alongside New World Interactive, Nimble Giant Entertainment, 3D Realms, Slipgate Ironworks, Mad Head Games, Fractured Byte, and Sandbox Strategies.

Embracer will remain in control of Aspyr, TripWire, Beamdog, Tuxedo Labs, Demiurge, Shiver, Snapshot Games, and 34 Big Things. Embracer will continue to work with 4A Games and Zen Studios, though Saber has the right to acquire those studios in future — and has indicated it plans to do just that.

Following the news, Saber COO Tim Willits confirmed that several planned titles were still in production.

“I have received a lot of questions concerning the status of some of our previously announced projects now that Saber has separated from Embracer,” Willits wrote. “I’m happy to confirm we’re still working on a number of titles, including Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, and Jurassic Park: Survival. We’re so excited about these titles and can’t wait to share more with everyone soon.”

As part of the rumours, Gearbox was also tipped to be sold out from Embracer; we’ll report back as we learn more.
