EB Games Australia to close 19 stores around the country

Update: EB Games Australia has advised that 19 stores will be closed across Australia in total.

“Like all businesses, we are constantly evaluating our property portfolio to ensure that our stores mix is in-line with the ever changing retail landscape,” an EB Games Australia representative told Stevivor in a statement. “After careful consideration we will be closing 19 unprofitable stores at the end of January.

“Where possible, staff were offered the opportunity to work in surrounding stores. In exciting news, 2020 will see EB Games continue to open more large format stores that combine the power of both the EB Games and Zing Pop Culture. These hybrid stores, combined with our strong omni-channel offering, 6 million loyalty members and 300+ locations across Australia, will see EB Games continue to be one of Australia’s largest specialty retailers.”

We’ve asked EB Games Australia to confirm the list of all 19 stores and will update this story as more is known.

Original story: EB Games Australia has told its customers it will be closing tens of stores around the country, reports today suggest.

“EB Games have emailed EB World members to advise of individual store closures,” OzBargain user agentsmith wrote, displaying an email sent to Majura Park, ACT customers. Members on the site have gathered to advise of stores impacted by the decision, as follows:

  • ACT: Majura Park
  • NSW: Blacktown, Rockdale, Winston Hills, Birkenhead Point
  • QLD: Inala, Bribie Island, Underwood, Cleveland
  • SA: Adelaide City Cross, Brickworks, Hallet Cove, Harbourtown Adelaide
  • VIC: Dandenong, Docklands, Hamilton
  • WA: Dianella, Kalamunda

Alongside the news of closures, EB Games Australia has advised that stock will be discounted between 20-60% in order to clear it out.

Update: Reader Robbie Shenton has sent through this image of discounts applied at the Inala store.

We’ve reached out to EB Games Australia for confirmation of stores that will be closing and will update this story as we learn more.
