Destiny’s “Taken King”: A new Strike, artifacts and more

Early this morning, Bungie unveiled one of the new Strikes available in Destiny‘s “Taken King” DLC through a special livestream.

The stream focused more on gameplay and the DLC’s new sub-classes rather than exposing new information, but there were still plenty of new items and mechanics on show.

The Strike is set on the Dreadnaught and will task you with stopping two Cabal shield brothers. On the way to the brothers for the final fight you will encounter Hive, Cabal and the new enemy type: The Taken. There is also a Goliath Tank similar to the one in the Valus Ta’aurc strike but in a much more confined area.

The brothers Valus Tlu’urn and Valus Mau’ual — or Blastoise and Charizard as they’re bound to be known as — will take you on separately at first, then attack together for the finale. Each will have a different attack strategy; Valus Mau’ual will attack you head on with melee attacks while Valus Tlu’urn will tend to attack more from range with the rocket launchers strapped to his back.

There were also a few new items introduced on the stream. The first is the new artifact item that will add to your overall stats and boost your sub class with special perks. Right at the end of the stream we got to see the new heavy weapon type, the sword in action for a short time. It looks to work like any other temporary sword in the game currently but also has a shield option for defending and can be eqiped in the heavy weapon slot.

“The Taken King” launches on 15 September and there will be one more live reveal before release next week focusing on the Dreadnaught and the Court of Oryx.
