Current-gen Minecraft ports releasing soon, Vita version delayed

Minecraft on PS4, PS Vita and Xbox One was supposed to be available in August, however August has come and gone and our current-gen consoles — and Vitas — are still without pixelated tree punching.

While there’s been no official word from Mojang, 4J Studios — the developer behind the ports — has been tweeting up a storm about the three absentee versions. The PS Vita version requires “bit more work” before 4J “can hand it over to Sony.” So it looks like handheld Minecraft is still some time away.

The PS4 version failed at certification with Sony the first time around, but 4J announced that it’s “back with Sony for final testing.” if it passes, we’ll likely see it on the PlayStation Store in the not too distant future.

Finally, the Xbox One version has been handed “over to Microsoft for final test.” If and when it passes with will appear on the Xbox Games Store sometime shortly after.

Minecraft is available now for Mac, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Update [04 September 2014]: Minecraft is now available on PS4. Details on how to update can be found here.
