Control AWE expansion release date set for 27 August

The Control AWE expansion release date has finally been confirmed across all platforms, arriving on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 on 27 August.

A new trailer for the expansion — featuring Alan Wake not only in voice but IN THE FLESH (well, the virtual equivalent of it anyway) featured during today’s latest PlayStation State of Play. The trailer is below.

AWE will take Bureau Director Jesse Faden to the Investigations Sector of the Oldest House, where the Federal Bureau of Control closely examines Altered World Events (AWE) – happenings where paranatural forces breach our world with sometimes grave consequences,” Remedy said of the new content.

The expansion will be available to players who’ve completed Control‘s seventh main mission (“The Face of the Enemy”) and will open up a previously abandoned part of the Bureau.

“To reclaim the Investigations Sector from its clutches, Jesse will need to explore the Altered World Events investigated here, including one from the town of Bright Falls where Jesse learns more about the disappearance of the writer Alan Wake,” Remedy continued.

AWE will release alongside a free August update that includes a new power called Multi-Launch alongside additional checkpoints and other quality of life features.

Best yet, Remedy has confirmed that the AWE expansion is part of a larger move.

“You might have heard a certain Alan Wake narrating the trailer and showing up at the very end,” Remedy’s Thomas Puha teased over on the PlayStation Blog. “Over the years, we have included Easter eggs in our games that related some of Remedy’s games to each other, as you have seen if you played Control… but what if they were not all just Easter eggs?

“What if there’s actually been a plan in place for over a decade on how some of our games are connected – a Remedy Connected Universe, if you will – and payoff for certain things is… down the line?”

Remedy’s Creative Director Sam Lake and Control Game Director Mikael Kasurinen will go live on Twitch from 2.00 am on Thursday 14 August to showcase AWE‘s opening 15 minutes.

Control is available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4. AWE will be available from 27 August, part of the game’s Season Pass, Digital Deluxe version or purchasable for $14.99 USD.
