Though players on Xbox are wondering if they're getting native ports.
Call of Duty Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are being ported to both PS4 and PS5 in July, leaving some players worried about native access on Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles.
“It’s official: the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are being ported to PlayStation in July, courtesy of our partners at [Iron Galaxy],” Treyarch posted to social media.
The studio then confirmed that the ports “will include Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies.”
Both Call of Duty Black Ops and Call of Duty Black Ops 2 are playable on last- and current-gen Xbox consoles using backwards compatibility, meaning players are really accessing the Xbox 360 version of each game. As you might have expected, Xbox players have some issues with that.
“What about Xbox, PC, and Switch,” asked Twitter user Malioman. “The games are compromised on both Xbox and PC to the point hackers can run remote code on our computers making them unsafe for online play.”
“If these get fresh servers and the Xbox versions don’t get updated as well, this is an extremely bad look on Xbox,” added dinofreak6301 on Reddit. “Because wtf do you mean a first party game isn’t gonna be properly playable for Xbox but will be for the competitors.”
At present, it’s a bit unclear as to how the ports will operate or if Xbox and PC versions of the ports will also be offered to players. We’ll keep you informed as we learn more.
