CD Projekt Red denies Sony acquisition: “Not for sale,” says CEO

Rumours have swirled since March.

CD Projekt Red has denied rumours that it will be acquired by Sony, with CEO Adam Kiciński insisting the studio “is not for sale”.

While rumours have been swirling since around March of this year, they’ve been reinvigorated by Destiny 2 leaker Liz (via IconEra), who took to Discord to say, “PlayStation plans on buying CD Projekt Red”.

“Yah, we’re not in such talks with Sony,” CDPR… um, PR rep Ola Sondej said on Twitter, speaking to the rumours.

Kiciński later doubled down on the assertion during a quarterly investors call.

“Nothing has changed,” he said. “I can repeat what we’ve been saying throughout the year: CD Projekt is not for sale.

“We want to remain independent,” Kiciński  continued. “We have, I believe, an excellent strategy—not easy to execute, for sure—but it’s very exciting to follow our own path.”

Also taking to Twitter, insider Shinobi602 spelled it out for those who think CDPR is merely lying about talks.

“Those were totally private companies,” they said. “CDPR is publicly held. They have a duty to shareholders. This isn’t something you play around with.”
