Update: The underlying problem behind the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox save issue has been identified and a fix is on the way.
“Microsoft have identified the cause of the save bug on Xbox, and will be issuing a firmware update to fix it,” Larian said on social media. “You’ll be able to update your console manually on the 16th of January or wait a week longer for the update to roll out globally”.
Original story [3 January 2024]: A Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox save issue remains in play as 2024 starts, but thankfully developer Larian has a workaround that should keep you playing while it’s all sorted.
“We’re aware that there is a save issue on Xbox that continues to linger throughout the holidays,” Larian said on social media. “It occurs when exiting the game after saving.”
“The game thinks the save was successful but due to a firmware issue, the save file is not fully committed to disk yet,” Larian continued. “Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on it but obviously during the holidays everyone is working at lower capacity so it may take a while before a proper fix becomes available. For the time being we can offer a work-around via the Larian cross-save system.”
Here’s what you’ll need to do:
- Create a Larian account here
- In-game, head to Options, then Gameplay, then activate cross-saves
- Link your Xbox and Larian accounts when prompted
After doing so, your last five saves will be uploaded to Larian servers, and can be accessed in case of a local problem with save/load data. Easy, eh?
“We completely understand that losing progress is frustrating, and unacceptable. We’re doing everything we can to ensure this problem – which we understand is unique – is resolved as quickly as possible, and we’ll keep you up to date with progress,” Larian also stated.
