The Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release has been confirmed for RIGHT NOW, though the announcement wasn’t actually part of the Game Awards 2023.
The popular game — one that’s up for the Game of the Year category in the Game Awards 2023 (and actually won it) — was delayed on Xbox because developer Larian couldn’t get splitscreen co-op to work on Xbox Series S. In a first, Microsoft waved its need for parity on both Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X; those on Microsoft’s more-powerful console will still be able to take advantage of the functionality.
The shadow drop was sort of referenced in an ad for Baldur’s Gate 3 that aired during the ad-filled specatacle that is the Game Awards. You can see a screen from the ad below, and a new trailer below.
The title is priced at $104.95 AUD on the Microsoft Store.
We knew that Baldur’s Gate 3 was heading to Xbox with this special clause back in August of this year.
“Super happy to confirm that after meeting [Phil Spencer]… we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year still, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time,” Larian’s Swen Vincke said at the time. “All improvements will be there, with split-screen coop on Series X. Series S will not feature split-screen co-op, but will also include cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series.”
The title was recently updated with Patch 5, a behemoth of a content update that’s added an epilogue alongside two new game modes. Custom Mode makes short rests fully healing, disables Death Saving Throws, and lets you hide failed Perception Checks — you’ll never know they happened; Honour Mode is all about challenge, featuring a Legendary Action system which will change enemy actions in the middle of a battle.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available now on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PS5.
