Australian Dune movie debut almost three months later than Europe

Oof.

The Australian Dune movie debut will take place almost three months later than in Europe, Warner Bros has today revealed.

European countries including France, Sweden and Switzerland will premiere the film on 15 September, followed by debuts between 16-23 September in countries including Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, Taiwan and the UAE.

A series of theatrical debuts follow between 15-22 October and include Japan, New Zealand, the UK and USA. Australia literally brings up the rear with a release from 2 December, a whopping six weeks after the USA.

It’s likely the timing is an attempt to coincide with lessened lockdown restrictions in NSW and VIC, but nevertheless, Australian fans will have to be patient. While the film will be available for in-home livestreaming via HBO Max in the USA, it’s unclear if Australians will have a similar option. If we do have access, it will likely be through Binge.

Dune heads to theatres in Australia from 2 December. We’ll report back as we learn more.
