April’s PlayStation Plus lineup revealed

Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus lineup for April and once again there are some great games available free to subscribers across PS Vita, PS3 and PS4.

PlayStation 4 owners will receive the 2D, side-scrolling shoot ’em up Mercenary Kings. Just released on Mac and Windows PC via Steam the PS4 version is a console exclusive. Playing as one of the titular Mercenary Kings, players must save the Earth from the evil CLAW by creating and upgrading an ever expanding arsenal of weapons and armour.

For PlayStation 3, subscribers will receive two games released in 2013, PES 2014 and Sly Cooper: Thieves in TimePES 2014 is the latest installment in the long running soccer franchise and the first game powered by the FOX engine to be released. In his review, Andrew wrote, “Overall, Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 appears to have taken more of a turn towards proper simulation as opposed to the earlier arcade-like editions of the game. It appears as though Konami really wants this game to take back the football title from EA’s FIFA franchise, but I’d argue they should have stuck with their roots,” summarising that perhaps the game should have remained somewhat more arcadey.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is the fourth installment in the franchise and the first developed for PlayStation 3. It also supports Cross Buy and Cross Save meaning when you download it for PS3 you’ll also get access to the PS Vita version. In our review, we wrote, “Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time doesn’t re-invent the wheel, and it doesn’t need to. It’s a fun, witty, entertaining romp through time that will please the littlies, the parents and everyone in between.”

On the PS Vita, subscribers can also look forward to two games, Hotline Miami and MotoGP 13Hotline Miami is a top-down, shoot ’em/beat ’em up that’s been widely released and widely praised. Playing as Jacket, players must make their way through multiple levels and defeat every enemy they come across. It’s fast paced, addictive and ultra violent. It also supports Cross Buy, so downloading the PS Vita version gives you access to the PS3 version for no extra charge.

Finally, MotoGP 13 is a motorcycle racing sim that lets players rise up through the MotoGO ranks solo or with friends.

Games leaving PlayStation Plus in April are Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition, Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2, Smart As and Pixeljunk Monster Ultimate HD. The new lineup will be available 2 April.
