Apex Legends’ solo queue opens up next week

Who needs teammates?

A special Apex Legends solo queue will be available to players as part of an event named the “Chaos Theory Collection”.

Running between 10-24 March here in Australia, the event offers up quite a bit, including a Caustic Town Takeover, a Ring Fury Escalation Takeover — and, of course, coincides with Apex Legends‘ release on Twitter — but the anti-social among us will certainly appreciate the ability to play alone the most. While the event is timed, the solo queue is here to stay for good.

“In the lobby, you’ll now see a checkbox entitled ‘Fill Matchmaking’,” Respawn said in an update. “This means the matchmaking system will attempt to fill your squad to Duos or Trios, whichever you queued for. This is how the game has worked up to this point, and will be the default setting after every match you play.

“Unchecking this box and clicking Play will send your party into your selected playlist without filling your team with other players. So, if you solo queue into Trios, with ‘Fill Matchmaking’ unchecked, you’ll go in alone. You’ll be on a team of one, against teams of three.”

Matches will be capped at up to six solo players, and those going solo can’t play in Ranked mode.

Apex Legends is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X, PS4 and PS5. It heads to Switch on 10 March.
