Alan Wake Remastered, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Epic Games Store listings found

Original story [19 June 2021]: Alan Wake Remastered and Final Fantasy 7 Remake may have just been outed by news listings found within the Epic Games Store.

As first discovered on Reddit, a user has found a folder string called “AlanWakeRemastered” alongside an EpicData listing for “HeronStaging”; that folder string has since been renamed “Heron” to keep things under wraps.

On the Final Fantasy front, an EpicData listing for “Pineapple” registered to Square Enix Japan has also appeared, with many believing that to be a codename for Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

We’ll keep you informed as we learn more about both titles. Already, we know that Remedy is working on two Remedy Connected Universe titles that will involve the likes of Alan Wake, Control and possibly even games like Quantum Break (though Microsoft owns the IP of that latter title). Both titles are being developed in partnership with the Epic Games Store’s — you guessed it — Epic Games.

While we’re admittedly enthusiastic about Alan Wake Remastered, we think we’d prefer a wholly new Alan Wake title as one of those two aforementioned games (or at the very least, the remaster not counting as one of the two). How about you?

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a PlayStation exclusive at the moment.

Update [5 September 2021]: Twitter user Wario64 has spotted listings for Alan Wake Remastered on a Taiwanese retailer’s website.

Rakuten Taiwan listed the title under three different SKUs — PS4, PS5 and Xbox One | Series S & X — alongside a 5 October release date; the entries have since been removed.

We’ll of course keep you posted as more is known.
